How should I repair my kitchen counter?

I am moving out of my apartment at the end of the month and I damaged my kitchen counter by putting down a hot pan on it when I burned my hand and it made a “ring” on my counter that indented it and took all the paint off. Can I sand it down and then paint it or what would anyone suggest?

For the laminate will only make the best.

What is the surface of the counter, it indented it?
if it is laminate, not much you can do
if it is a corrian material, it can be sanded, however some specialty tools could be needed
if it is butcher block, try lemon juice and salt
tile and other stones should not behave as you described.
