fiormica kitchen table repair?

my mothers yellow formica kitchen table that she bought in 58 or 59, she doesnt remember for sure, is now mine. it will be going in my kitchen after repair. it has a lot of life left in it and a lot of wear showing its age. in some places the yellow surface has chips in it. most do not penetrate the top fnish. two penetrate deeply into the formica. i want to know how to properly fill the voids and match the colors int he original surface. replacing the finish should be no problem. most likely i will use poly. im thinking that wood filler should work well to fill the voids. what should i use to match the rest of the top without making it look like some twit did a quicky repair to the table?
this link shows the type of surface i am dealing with. it does not have the same pattern but the colors are the same. this pic was gotten online. i do not have a pic of the table.

i found a website/buisness that makes new things of this nature from many different decades. they also repair accordng to the website. was sent there by a friend that works at kodak and makes much more money that i do. anyway he had his steel dropleaf enamle table repaired there. what he paid to repair is much more than i am willing to pay for the reapirs i want. but, he said that the repairs to the formica tables there were not noticble.
im not to concerned about the minor digs and scrapes. as Dave said its part of the character of teh table.
the ones that go well into the formica are what i am concerned about.
